PTLLS - Preparing to Teach in the Long Life Learning Sector

Get into Teaching!

As of September 2007 a new teacher qualifications framework was introduced by the Department for Education and Skills for those teaching or wishing to teach in the Learning and Skills Sector. PTLLS is now the minimum qualification you must hold if you wish to teach in post-compulsory education.

The PTLLS Course is for anyone interested in the Education & Learning sector. This course is suitable for those starting fresh, as well as those who are already working in the teaching profession and are hoping to receive an accredited qualification. Taking up a course in PTLLS would not only further your knowledge of the role but it would also give you a deeper insight into what actually matters in the teaching and learning process.

In order to get on the course it will be necessary to complete an assessment and be able to demonstrate a sufficient level of literacy. I would also be useful if you are qualified or knowledgeable in the subject you wish to teach. The idea of the assessment process is to decide whether or not you have the competency to teach.

The next step you may consider once you have completed the PTLLS would be the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS). The DTLLS is also suitable for candidates who already have teaching hours in the lifelong learning sector and who wish to attain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.
